I have a Samsung SR-S2028 cvw side by side Fridge Freezer. I have had this machine for nearly 15 years. I have ordered a new one. But it wont be arriving until the end of the month. I noticed the freezer temp was flashing on -18. I turned the fridge off and then turned it on again. I started up and ran for around 8 hours and then the same happened again. I switched it off and again run for 8 hours. I then switched it off and cleaned all the fluff and dirt away at the back with a hoover. I had a look at the pcb couldnt see any damage. I did notice it had a capacitor attached to the pcb. I have ordered a new capacitor to see if that improves. In the mean time I have used a automatic timer plug (for turning house lights on) and set it to turn off for 10 minutes every 4 hours. This seems to work. It would cost £90 to call a domestic goods electrician but i dont have this money. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @stek62 , Check that the defrost heater is OK. Not sure if it is the one in the freezer compartment or the one in the refrigerator compartment though. The defrost heater is located under the evaporator unit. I think that your model has two evaporators, one in each compartment. Turn off the power to the fridge and then access the evaporators which are located inside the compartments behind a panel at the back of the compartments. Access is though the door at the front. Unplug the defrost heater and use an Ohmmeter to measure its resistance value. I don’t know what it should be but it shouldn’t be open circuit What I think is happening is that after running for 8 hours the refrigerator goes into the defrost cycle, so the compressor and fans are turned off to allow the ice to melt from the evaporator unit. The defrost heater is turned on to speed things up. The defrost cycle usually lasts about 20-25 minutes The compressor won’t restart until the temps have risen in the compartment to a pre set temperature indicated by the defrost thermistor (or thermostat). If the heater is not working then it relies on nature to defrost and this could take up to 24 hours before the temperature in the compartments has risen far enough to restart the compressor. Turning off the power and then turning it on again resets the control board so that things work again until the next defrost cycle, 8 hours later.
