Chosen Solution

I have a 120GB PS3 slim that I bought in Scotland during Christmas 2009. I brought the console back with me to South Africa and I am using a EU to SA plug adapter. I was playing the PS3 when I had a power failure at home, so I thought all was well and flicked all the switches back on to carry on gaming. The console started up fine and everything was running as normal but after about half an hour into my gaming session the console just crashes without warning. It has been doing this ever since. When it crashes the power light that usually goes red when the console is on stand-by just stays off, as if it’s not plugged in. The only way to fix it is to unplug the cord out of the playstation and hook it back in. Can someone please help me, my warrantee is only valid in Europe and I’m not gonna fly up just to fix my PS3.

Alternativily, you can try this procedure, at your own risk… http://ps3slimnews.com/tag/issue/

I´m having the same problem. Searching over the internet, I found out that this problem is preatty usual, actually. It has something to do with the power supply. Changing it should resolve the problem.

It’s quite possible your hard drive got fried and you’re having errors. If you’re not sure you want to replace it, you can take it out and do some testing on it. You can use that guide to replace the drive once you get a new one.
