I’ve started my journey at repairing phones and wanted to start on an old phone I had laying around. I used this iPhone 6, which had a really severe overheating issue and we went to get the battery replaced for it a while back. After that was done it would still overheat intensely and we gave up on it. After buying a new screen and battery and buying all the tools to work on it I did and once I got it all working in order it still gets super hot and I have no idea what’s going on anymore. Is It something else?
Whenever there’s overheating there’s a shorted part or component. Unless one has a thermal camera, fingers will be the first tool to use trying to get as close as possible to the heat releasing part. If it’s a part, like a camera or a connector try disconnecting it from the logic board to see if that disposes of the overheating. If it’s the board itself, once you get close to the hot spot you can use a cotton swab dipped in 90%+ alcohol to let some drops on the surface and check where alcohol dries first and boils, that’s where your short is, usually a capacitor or an IC. There’s is your lead, at that stage you just have to repair it !
